High Profile Chef Joins St. James, NY Restaurant
The bar of the Long Island Restaurant
landscape has just
been raised to new heights. Chef Phillipe
Corbet has left
his position as Executive Chef at Bouley in
Manhattan to
become a Principal & Chef at Oscar's Restaurant & Bar in St.James, NY. The move is expected to elevate Oscar's,
already a highly regardedestablishment along St. James “Restaurant
Row”,
to a position as one of the elite restaurants on all of LongIsland.
Chef Corbet, a native of France & veteran of several Michelin
rated restaurants in France, began hisAmerican restaurant career as Executive Sous Chef at Stone
Creek Inn in East Quogue, NY. He left Stone Creek as Chef de Cuisine to accept
the Executive Chef position at Bouley where he oversaw and directed thekitchen & menu
at one of Manhattan's top five rated restaurants.
This James Beard Dinner participant says he looks forward to marrying his classic
French training , the contemporary global style required for a high
profile Manhattan restaurant, and local and regional influences to provide
a distinct cuisine which is uncomplicated at first glance but is layered with subtleties and complexity and can be appreciated
by the “Foodie” and
casual diner alike.
Expect to see new menus soon which will have Chef
Corbet's signature on them.
He will be offering an expansive dinner menu including the continuation
of the “City
Menu” program as well as a Chef's Tasting
Menu in the dining room. Additionally,
Chef Corbet will offer a “Brasserie” style
menu for the Bar & Lounge. Chef Corbet said he will produce menus that are varied
in style and price. He added, “I would like to bring my experience
at Michelin two-star rated restaurants and make food that people love but that
is not too expensive or formal”.
Oscar's Restaurant & Bar is an Eclectic
American Restaurant set in a renovated
Nantucket-style summerhouse.It has been open for over two years and has the feeling
of a warm gracious summer home while offering outstanding cuisine and relaxed
but professional service. Oscar's is open seven nights per week and during the
day for private parties. As of press time plans are in the works to open
soon for lunch.
